Cristiano Ronaldo helps out his Danish pants makers
Danish outlet Finans have reported on how Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo has helped out the company who make his CR7 underwear.
In 2013, Danish company JBS signed an agreement with Ronaldo to launch his new underwear clothing line.
As part of the deal, JBS agree to pay the footballer an annual fee for his image rights.
The precise sum owed is unknown.
However, JBS CEO Michael Alstrup has told the story of how Ronaldo has waived all future payments. Alstrup told Finans:
They (Ronaldo’s people) have said that because of the coronavirus, this year there will be no minimum payments at all. And Cristiano has even further helped us out by saying they’ll be nothing to pay anything until 2021.
CR7 underwear sales slump during Covid-19
Michael Alstrup also explained that Ronaldo’s decision to waive his costs also comes at a time when sales of his pants have slumped during the Covid-19 crisis.
Right now there should normally be the Champions League, plus all the other competitions Ronaldo is involved in including the domestic Juventus matches in Italy.
We have withheld all the goods we should have sent out (to the retailers).
Financs confirm that sales of CR7 underwear has been severely hit because one of the largest retailers, Yamamay in Italy, has closed 1000 stores for almost two months.
Financs also confirm that CR7 pants make up around 14% of JBS’s revenue.
