Everton & Chelsea’s Tiemoue Bakayoko
Could Everton sign Tiemoue Bakayoko from Chelsea?
That rumour appears in the Mail on Sunday, as readers are told the following:
Everton could move for the £40 million Frenchman as a replacement for Idrissa Gueye.
Gueye, who was given time off to visit family in Senegal following the African Cup of Nations, is expected to seal a move to PSG once he returns to Europe.
The Mail also report that Frank Lampard has decided to sell Bakayoko following the club’s pre-season tour of Asia.
But how easy will be to shift Bakayoko from Chelsea’s books?
The 24-year-old is under contract at Chelsea until 2022, while one has to assume that any suitors will try to poach Bakayoko at a discount rate.
Who else could Everton sign?
Returning to the Everton side of the story, the Toffees do seem set to sign a new defensive midfielder as Idrissa Gueye’s PSG move seems to be a lock.
If Everton don’t move for Chelsea’s Bakayoko, they could try to sign Jean-Philippe Gbamin from Mainz instead.
Last week, Bernard Collignon, the agent of Mainz’s Jean-Philippe Gbamin, has spoken to Le Parisien about rumours linking his client to Everton. He said:
Jean-Philippe is seduced by the idea of joining Everton.
To join a club in England who are near the top of table would be a very beautiful opportunity at a very good time.
Gbamin is a 23-year-old Ivorian international.
Gbamin has mostly played as a defensive midfielder for Mainz.
However, Gbamin is also able to fill in in defence. He can play at right-back or centre-half if needed.
Last season, Gbamin played 31 time in the Bundesliga. He scored twice and had one assist.
