Video: Arsenal fans in Baku chant about Mkhitaryan ahead of EL final

Arsenal vs Chelsea

The 2019 Europa League final is set to take place on Wednesday the 29th of May.

The tie will be played between two English sides, Arsenal and Chelsea.

The tie will obviously be of huge importance for both teams as it is a chance to win the second biggest prize in European club football.

However, the final will have slightly more importance to Arsenal as if they win the tie it will mean they can play Champions League football next season.

Gunners fans singing for Mkhitaryan

One of the biggest talking points heading into what should be an excellent final is the location.

The final is being held in Baku, Azerbaijan’s capital city.

The location is attracting a fair bit of attention and largely not for positive reasons.

Firstly, Arsenal and Chelsea fans were handed 6,000 tickets each for the final.

While this doesn’t seem like that many for two big PL clubs, Arsenal have had to return around 2,300 of their tickets due to many fans not wanting to make the over 5,000-mile round journey.

Some Arsenal fans have also been sharing their struggles in Baku involving problems with hotels and taxis.

Perhaps the biggest problem, however, was that Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan chose not to travel to Baku as he feared for his safety.

There is political tension between Mkhitaryan’s home country Armenia and Azerbaijan, which led to him opting to stay in London.

Arsenal fans wearing Mkhitaryan shirts in Baku have even been stopped by police.

Now, a video has emerged showing Arsenal fans in the capital chanting for their missing player.
