Alli out of Spurs squad again / Ozil becomes Twitter sensation having been left out of Arsenal squad

Out again

According to the Athletic‘s David Ornstein, Dele Alli has once again been left out of Spurs’ squad who travel to Burnley.

The England international has not started a Premier League game since the opening day in which he was replaced at half time by Moussa Sissoko. Spurs lost the game 1-0 but have since turned their fortunes around, remaining unbeaten. All without the help of Alli besides a 30 minute cameo at Old Trafford when 5-1 up.

Alli was reported to have been subject to loan offers from French champions PSG, but Spurs rejected all approaches. Puzzling that Alli was not granted a route out of the club in the short-term if Jose Mourinho was not forthcoming with selection opportunities.

With the club in Europa League group stage competition, Mourinho will need to rotate. Alli was likely kept on to provide squad depth.

However, this lack of game time is having a detrimental impact on the 24-year-old’s England hopes. Being left out of the last two squads by Gareth Southgate, younger, exciting talents are being prioritised. The likes of Mason Mount and Bukayo Saka coming into the fold.

Twitter takeover

One option for Dele Alli could come from a fierce rival. Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil was left out of the Arsenal Premier League squad. The German and his agent were not pleased with the decision and both have made critical public statements.

His agent in particular was highly opinionated on Arteta. “Arsenal fans deserve an honest explanation, not saying, ‘I failed Ozil.’ You didn’t fail Ozil. You failed to be fair, honest and transparent and treat someone with respect who has a contract and was loyal all the time,” said Dr Erkut Sogut in an interview with ESPN.

Whilst the decision has now been made, Ozil has decided to use his time during matches differently. The 32-year-old has begun live tweeting throughout the matches, commenting on instances, supporting his teammates and even setting up polls for fans to vote on.

Whether or not it is in fact Ozil or his PR team is unclear but Arteta was more than happy for Ozil to push forward with his social media career.

‘This is great! This is what I want from all the players that aren’t in our squad. I didn’t expect anything different to that, so it’s good to hear,’ speaking after Arsenal’s 2-1 win in Vienna.

Arsenal’s next game is home to Dundalk in the Europa League on Thursday. The Ozil tweets may yet again surface for the fixture.
