La Liga Round-Up: Real bounce back, Sociedad & Getafe continue unbeaten runs & Valencia drop more points
Real Betis 2-3 Real Madrid
Los Blancos tough start to the season looked set to continue at the half-time whistle in Seville. Although taking an early lead through Fede Valverde, Betis scored twice in as many minutes to take a 2-1 lead into the break.
Los Verdiblancos equalized through a rare Aissa Mandi header before William Carvalho’s powerful left-footed shot beat Courtois low to his right-hand side.
Luck would flow the away side’s way as a Dani Carvajal cross was poorly defended by Emerson who turned the ball into his own net. Things got worse for the Brazilian when he was sent off for taking down Luka Jovic as the last man.
Then, just as things were looking bleak, former Barcelona defender Marc Bartra handled in the box. Sergio Ramos, once again, smashed home from the spot.
Zidane will be pleased at his first win of the season after a disappointing goalless draw on the opening day against Real Sociedad.
Victoria, remontada y el primero del curso… a la cazuela 🍳
Poco a poco y a por más.
A comeback, a win and off the mark for the season.
3 points to start and onwards.

Valencia 1-1 Huesca
Valencia dropped points again as they looked to avenge their drab loss at Celta a week prior. The Mestella side took the lead through a very fortunate Daniel Wass free-kick. The Dane swung a curling cross from the left-hand side and it ended up in the back of the Huesca net. But the away side kept pushing, league debutant Jaime Seoane saw a wonderful half-volley pushed over by Jaume.
The keeper again saving from a corner, Jorge Pulido’s header brilliantly reacted to by Jaume. However, he could do nothing from the subsequent corner kick, Dimitrios Soivas rose highest to send a looping headed effort into the top-right corner.
Valencia have so far picked up 4 points from a possible 9 and with no further signings yet made, Javi Gracia could see his position under increasing pressure.

Elche 0-3 Real Sociedad
Whilst La Real were playing their third round game, for Elche it was their opening day – the La Liga disruption due to extended European breaks proving costly.
Elche’s keeper Edgar Badia was certainly the promoted side’s best player and that tells the story of the match. Sociedad peppered the Elche goal but had to wait until after the half-time break to find their breakthrough.
Mikel Merino’s incisive pass found Portu on the right of the goal who somehow slotted home at the tightest of angles. This led to Elche opening up and leaving gaps. Adnan Januzaj was brought down in the box and calmly smashed home La Real’s second of the match from the spot.
20-year-old substitute Roberto Lopez came on and hit a rocket of a shot high into the top-right to close the game off in added time.
Sociedad pick up their first win after two draws in the first two match weeks.

Deportivo Alaves 0-0 Getafe
A goalless draw with plenty of chances for both sides played out at Mendizorrotza. Getafe, buoyed by their established position as a top-half La Liga side, had the better chances. Watford loanee Cucho Hernandez saw an early effort poked wide. Marc Cucurella also saw a genius back-heeled effort saved by Fernando Pacheco.
However, prior to this chance, former Getafe striker Deyverson missed a glorious chance to give Alaves a much needed goal. Clear and through on goal, the Brazilian attempted to lob former teammate David Soria and saw it sail over the crossbar.
Late chances for Alaves’ Joselu and Getafe’s Enes Unal would go begging as the sides settled for a point a piece. Alaves’ first of the season in what looks to be another tough year for the Basque side.
