Mikel Arteta on if he thinks Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah should be handed an England call-up

Liverpool vs Arsenal

Week three of the 2020/21 Premier League season is set to draw to a close on Monday evening when Liverpool and Arsenal face off.

Jurgen Klopp’s outfit are, of course, the reigning Premier League champions and have had a solid start to the current campaign.

However, the Gunners will still no doubt believe they can get something from the clash at Anfield.

Arsenal have improved markedly under the Spaniard, especially against the big teams, and have already beaten the Reds twice in the last few months – including for the 2020 Community Shield.

Arteta on Nketiah

Mikel Arteta would hold his pre-Liverpool presser on Friday.

During the presser, the young coach was drawn on a host of topics, including Eddie Nketiah.

The 21-year-old has been afforded a decent amount of game time since Arteta returned to London and has scored once in the league this season.

And with Arteta seemingly a fan of Nketiah, who boasts a superb record for England’s under-21 side, the Arsenal boss was drawn on the possibility of his hitman being handed a senior call-up to Gareth Southgate’s side, to which he responded:

“Well, I don’t know. Obviously if he keeps performing in the way he has been with us in the last few months he will have a really good chance and as well, I think culturally, England and the actual manager are really brave with young kids.

“It’s up to them, they have to be consistent and keep doing what they’re doing at club level and then that opportunity will come in a natural way.”
