Speculation stemming from France suggests that Premier League champions Manchester City are set to ramp up their chase of Lyon’s Houssem Aouar imminently.
Lyon prodigy
Aouar, a gifted 21-year-old midfielder, has been on the books of Lyon since 2009.
He broke into the first-team ranks of the Ligue 1 giants for the first time at the beginning of 2017, and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the most highly-regarded young talents in French football.
Aouar is regularly lauded for his technical ability and creative flair, and has already been likened to Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta during his fledgling career.
However, the French U21-international is also not afraid to stick a foot in when required, making Aouar a highly-desirable, all-round modern midfielder.

Manchester bound?
Aouar’s talents have seen the youngster rack up an impressive 9 goals and 7 assists across all competitions to this point in the current campaign, a return which has inevitably seen some of European football’s heavyweights named as keen admirers.
Thus far, the outfit most persistently-linked with a move for the Lyon man have been Italian champions Juventus.
In the Premier League, meanwhile, a host of clubs have previously been credit with an interest with Aouar, with Frank Lampard’s Chelsea tipped for a €50 million swoop earlier this year.
If the latest speculation stemming from the European media over the last 24 hours is to be believed, however, then a new frontrunner appears to have emerged in the race for Lyon’s midfield gem.
The outfit in question? Manchester City.
As per a report from French outlet RMC Sport (via GFFN), the Sky Blues are set to make contact with Lyon over the coming weeks, to open formal negotiations for Aouar.
Such discussions will only take place, though, once the COVID-19 crisis has subsided.
Along with City, RMC name both long-term suitors Juventus and Ligue 1 champions PSG as sides eyeing Aouar this summer.
Lyon, for their part, are said to be ready to discuss their French youth international’s sale, but only for a fee in the region of €50 million.
