Benzema’s brilliant backheel for Real Madrid vs Espanyol was better than Guti’s, claims Zidane

On Sunday in Barcelona, Real Madrid picked up a big three points in a 1-0 away win at Espanyol.

The win lifted Los Blancos onto 71 points. They are two points clear of Barcelona with 6 matches to go.

Real Madrid beat Espanyol after a moment of brilliance from Karim Benzema.

Seconds before the halftime break, Marcelo pinged a long ball to Sergio Ramos, who flicked the ball onto Benzema in the box.

The French striker proceeded to nutmeg Espanyol defender Bernardo with an exquisite backheel pass, which allowed Casemiro to stab the ball home from close range.

Zidane: Benzema assist better than Guti’s best

After the Espanyol game, Zinedine Zidane lavished praised on Benzema, claiming his assist was better than Guti’s best.

In his post match presser, one journalist recalled a Guti backheel assist for Benzema in 2010 against Deportivo, plus another Guti assist for Zidane against Sevilla in 2006.

When Zidane was asked to compare Guti’s assists to Benzema’s, Zidane said: I think this one [is the best], Karim’s.

Of course, Guti produced his fair share of backheel assists as well…

Gerard Moreno’s wonder volley for Villarreal vs Valencia

Villarreal kept their Champions League hopes alive on Sunday with a 2-0 home win against Valencia.

The result left the Yellow Submarine in 5th place o 51 points. Sevilla are 4th on 54 points.

Villarreal broke the deadlock through Paco Alcacer in the 14th minute, however it was the second goal of the game which had talking.

A minute before the break, Villarreal sent the ball from their own half into the goal with the ball touching the floor.

Goalie Asenjo launched a long ball towards Santi Carzola near the Valencia box.

Carzola cushioned a sumptuous pass towards the onrushing Gerard Moreno, who hit a stunning first-time left-footed volley into the net.
