Mason Greenwood’s goal celebration vs Brighton explained & Bruno Fernandes on Man United’s Champions League hopes
Brighton 0 – Manchester United 3
What a night for Manchester United.
After playing 120 minutes against Norwich last weekend in the FA Cup, some may have expected Man United to be sluggish at Brighton on Tuesday.
However, that couldn’t have been further from the truth as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side raced out the blocks at the Amex.
It only took 16 minutes before Mason Greenwood drove home United’s opener.
Just before the half hour Bruno Fernandes made it 2-0 with a deflected curler from the edge of the Brighton box.
The goal of the game was scored 5 minutes after the restart: Nemanja Matic launched a blistering counter-attack with a gorgeous pass to the onrushing Greenwood on the left, Greenwood eventually picked out Bruno at the far post, and the Portuguese capped the move with a sublime volley.
Mason Greenwood’s goal celebration vs Brighton explained
After Greenwood scored with his low shot, the youngster displayed an ‘A’ sign during his goal celebration.
It’s since been confirmed by Angel Gomes, that Greenwood’s celebration was a shout out to him.
Angel Gomes left Man United on Tuesday after he failed to agree a contract extension to remain at Old Trafford.
Gomes thanked Greenwood for the gesture on his Instagram Stories.

Bruno Fernandes on Man United’s Champions League hopes
After beating Brighton, Manchester United are up to 5th in the league. They are above Wolves on goal difference.
Provided Man City fail to overturn their UEFA ban, 5th place will yield a spot in next season’s Champions League.
And Bruno Fernandes is confident that Man United will be playing in Europe’s premier competition next season. Speaking after Brighton the 25-year-old said:
We didn’t concede any goal once again. The defenders did an amazing job and the whole team deserved the result.
We know if we keep this up we can make it into the Champions League placings.
Will Manchester United qualify for the Champions League?
After their win at Brighton, Man United’s odds to finish in the top 4 have dropped to 1/1.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are now on a 15-game unbeaten run, while they could still finish the season as FA Cup and Europa League winners.
It’s also worth noting that – on paper – Man United’s run-in looks favourable. Four of their last seven games against teams who are currently in the bottom six.
Man United remaining Premier League fixtures: Bournemouth (h), Aston Villa (a), Southampton (h), C Palace (a), West Ham (h), Leicester (a).
