Newcastle 2 – Man City 1
Man City suffered a shock defeat away at Newcastle United on Tuesday in the Premier League.
Thankfully for the Sky Blues, Leicester managed to hold Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Anfield on Wednesday.
The upshot is that Liverpool hold a five point lead over Man City in the title race.
City took the lead at St Jame’s Park after just 24 seconds as Sergio Aguero found the target.
But the Magpies turned the match in the second half with goals from Salomon Rondon and Matt Ritchie.
Arsenal & Everton
Man City will be back in action on Sunday in the Premier League when Arsenal visit the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s side will then travel to Everton’s Goodison Park on Wednesday for another league fixture.
Ederson injury update
As reported in the Telegraph, Man City now have injury concerns over goalie Ederson.
Will the Brazilian be fit for the Arsenal and Everton games?
Ederson required medical treatment during the Newcastle match.
Just as Ritchie was preparing to take his spot-kick, the South American stopper held up play to receive medical treatment.
Many thought that Ederson was simply playing games at Newcastle.
However the Telegraph report that the keeper actually suffered an injury:
Manchester City have concerns over goalkeeper Ederson who suffered an injury to his leg in the defeat to Newcastle United on Tuesday night and will have to play on given the club’s goalkeeper cover.
There was consideration given to Ederson coming off in the minutes before Matt Ritchie’s 80th-minute winning penalty and Pep Guardiola initially summoned his reserve goalkeeper Aro Muric from the bench before changing his mind.
Ederson was in discomfort in the aftermath of the game at St James’ Park, the injury understood to be a gash or cut.
