MK Dons 0-Liverpool 2
Liverpool began their 2019/20 League Cup journey earlier this week vs MK Dons.
The Reds lost out in the 3rd round last season vs Chelsea but they managed to improve on that finish this campaign after they beat MK Dons 2-0 in the same round.
James Milner and Ki-Jana Hoever would get the goals that put Jurgen Klopp’s side into the 4th round.
Liverpool have been drawn against fellow Premier League outfit Arsenal in said round.
Liverpool could be kicked out of cup
However, it has been reported on Saturday that Liverpool could be kicked out of the League Cup.
James Pearce, writing for The Athletic, reported on Saturday morning that Liverpool could be kicked out of the LC if they are found guilty of fielding an ineligible player in the victory over MK Dons.
The report from The Athletic also claims that the EFL have launched an investigation after it emerged one of the Liverpool players involved in the 3rd round clash may not have satisfied the registration criteria.
The Athletic also have these quotes from a Liverpool spokesman about the incident:
“The club are aware of a potential administrative issue pertaining to one of our players.
“We are working with the relevant authorities in order to establish the facts of the matter and will be making no further comment until this process is complete.” As quoted by The Athletic.
According to BBC Sport, the identity of the player in question has not been disclosed.
