West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini has this afternoon provided fitness updates on a number of the club’s stars.
Newcastle vs West Ham
The Hammers are set to travel to St James’ Park for a Premier League clash with Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.
Hosts Newcastle are enjoying a vastly-improved run of form of late, with Rafael Benitez’s men having picked up victories in their last 3 outings, the latest of which saw the Geordie outfit put Burnley to the sword by 2 goals to 1 at Turf Moor.
West Ham, meanwhile, saw their own 3-game unbeaten streak come to a harrowing end at the hands of Manchester City last weekend.
The capital outfit succumbed to a 4-0 home defeat to the Premier League champions, courtesy of strikes from Leroy Sane (2), David Silva and Raheem Sterling.
Arnautovic ‘fit to play’
In addition, capping off an altogether-forgettable afternoon for West Ham was an injury picked up by star man Marko Arnautovic.
Austrian attacker Arnautovic limped off in the closing stages of the clash with a hip problem.
As such, concern immediately spread regarding whether the former Stoke man would be fit to face Newcastle this weekend.
But, as per the aforementioned update from Irons’ boss Manuel Pellegrini this afternoon, Arnautovic has recovered in time, and looks set to feature at St. James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking in a press conference a short time ago, the Chilean tactician revealed:
‘Marko Arnautovic worked the whole week without any problems. He has one day more to recover for the game, but he’s OK. Marko is fit to play.’

Pellegrini also provided fitness updates on a number of West Ham’s other stars:
‘Andy Carroll is one step further forward than Wilshere because he played 45 minutes in the game against Brentford [plus] he was on the bench [vs Man City]. Both worked without problems this week so may be in the squad on Saturday.’
‘The rest of the injuries are all long injuries. So we have no new news about Lanzini, Sanchez, Reid, Yarmolenko or Fredericks.’
