Stan Collymore on the best manager in the Premier League
In his weekly column in the Mirror, Stan Collymore has offered his analysis on who is the best manager in the Premier League.
Most would place Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp and Man City’s Pep Guardiola at the top of the list.
Liverpool, like Spurs, are through to the Champions League semifinals having finished runners-up last season.
Man City, meanwhile, appear on course to win the domestic treble this year.
Yet, for Collymore, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is the best.
Why Tottenham’s Pochettino is better than Liverpool’s Klopp & Man City’s Guardiola
Collymore announced that “there is no better manager in the Premier League than Mauricio Pochettino.”
So how did he justify that opinion? Collymore wrote:
Qualifying Spurs for the Champions League next season and taking them to the showpiece final in Madrid this time out would almost be the equivalent of a trophy-winning exercise.
Particularly given the starting points that Man City, Liverpool and Tottenham have all come from in recent years.
I do wonder if Guardiola and Klopp would have achieved what Pochettino has in north London with their own clubs if they’d had the same limitations.
Does Collymore’s logic stack up? Or should his opinion be discredited for whataboutism?
Tottenham vs Ajax
Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has hit back at suggestions from Pochettino that Ajax gained an unfair advantage after the Dutch FA allowed them to skip last weekend’s fixture to prepare for Spurs.
Ten Hag hit back, saying:
Pochettino saying it’s unfair that we have more rest? We play in the Eredivisie where we get 10 million from TV-rights. They play in the Premier League where they get 200 million. So you tell me what’s fair?
