Maurizio Sarri last night dropped a hint over Gonzalo Higuain’s Chelsea future, admitting that the striker could yet remain with the club beyond the summer.
Higuain arrives
31-year-old Argentinian hitman Higuain completed his move to Stamford Bridge on the 23rd of January, following a protracted saga which eventually saw the veteran cut his loan stint with AC Milan short to pen a new temporary agreement in London.

The Juventus-owned striker’s arrival came on the back of a disappointing opening-half to the campaign for Alvaro Morata, with Higuain having been brought in to add some much-needed firepower to Chelsea’s frontline.
Higuain’s struggles
However, to this point, the veteran’s stint in England has proven largely-underwhelming.
Though Higuain has showcased flashes of his superb movement and prowess in front of goal, all told, the former Real Madrid man has notched just 4 goals across 14 appearances in Chelsea’s colours.
The latest of his fruitless outings came yesterday evening, during the Blues’ 1-1 stalemate with Manchester United.
Higuain’s listless display, during which the Argentine was caught offside 5 times, saw him come in for heavy criticism on the part of the Chelsea faithful, with many having made clear their feelings regarding the possibility of Higuain’s move to Stamford Bridge being made permanent in the summer:

‘He will be able to score a lot’
As such, speaking following his side’s draw at Old Trafford, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri was inevitably drawn on Higuain’s future in London.
And, during an interview with BBC Sport, the Italian tactician hinted that his former Napoli talisman could well continue to spearhead the Blues’ attack into next season.
‘In theory, yes,’ Sarri revealed when asked directly whether Chelsea would sign Higuain outright.
‘It’s difficult to adapt to the Premier League. I think in the next season he will be able to score a lot.’

The Chelsea boss continued:
‘For a striker it is difficult to get used to the Premier League, for every striker.’
‘I remember Suarez at Liverpool in first season only scores three goals, then 16, then 24, but it’s difficult to adapt to this Premier League.’
