Manchester United have confirmed the severity of the injury picked up by Eric Bailly during the club’s draw with Chelsea.
Man United 1-1 Chelsea
United welcomed Maurizio Sarri’s men to Old Trafford yesterday evening, for a crunch clash in the race for a spot in the Premier League’s top-4.
Ahead of kick-off, visitors Chelsea occupied the final of the English top-flight’s Champions League berths, 3 points adrift of London rivals Tottenham in 3rd.
Manchester United, meanwhile, sat a further 3 points back of the Blues in 6th.
As such, both sides were well aware that their European hopes for next season hung in the balance ahead of kick-off.
And, when all was said and done in Manchester, the 3-point gap between the clubs remained intact, as Chelsea tightened their grip on 4th-place.
After Juan Mata opened the game’s scoring early on, fellow Spaniard Marcos Alonso capitalized on the latest blunder on the part of David de Gea to pull Sarri’s men level on the stroke of half-time.

And, following a second-half during which Chelsea largely-dominated, but struggled to carve out clear-cut opportunities, both sides were eventually forced to make do with a point.
Bailly blow
An all-round disappointing evening for Manchester United, meanwhile, during which the Red Devils’ top-4 hopes were dealt a potentially-fatal blow, also saw a pair of the club’s stars pick up injuries.
After Marcus Rashford was forced off with a shoulder problem, Eric Bailly soon followed suit.
It was immediately evident, though, that the stopper’s issue was the more serious of the two.
And, after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last night revealed that Bailly was likely to miss the remainder of the campaign, a full diagnosis of the 25-year-old’s injury has since been provided.
The United stopper has suffered a ‘medial ligament injury’ in his right knee, with Bailly now set to miss not only the remainder of the club season, but also the Ivory Coast’s African Cup of Nations campaign this summer.
‘We can confirm that Manchester United defender Eric Bailly suffered a medial ligament injury on his right knee during Sunday’s Premier League match against Chelsea at Old Trafford.’
Get well soon, @EricBailly24! ❤️ #MUFC
