Denis Suarez’s nightmare Arsenal stint goes from bad to worse as midfielder is ruled out for season

On-loan Arsenal midfielder Denis Suarez has this afternoon confirmed that a groin injury is set to see him sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.

Arsenal stint

Suarez, a versatile 25-year-old attacking midfielder/winger, joined Arsenal in January, following a disappointing two-and-a-half year spell on the books of Barcelona.

The Spaniard made the move to the Emirates for the remainder of the campaign, with Arsenal holding an option to make his signing permanent in the summer.

However, to say that Suarez’s stint in North London has since proven a disappointment would be something of an understatement.

To this point, the former Villarreal star has managed just 6 appearances across all competitions in Arsenal’s colours, all of which have come from the bench.

As things stand, all of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Alex Iwobi, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey sit firmly ahead of Suarez in the attacking midfield/winger pecking order at the Emirates, with little indication having been forthcoming that the situation is set to change any time soon.

In fact, Charles Watts of Football.London last month provided an insight into the former Manchester City youth’s struggles in England thus far, seemingly confirming that the Arsenal board have no intention of purchasing Suarez outright at the end of the season:

‘He’s just not been good enough. Simple as that really.’

‘He clearly hasn’t done enough in training to convince Emery he should be starting. And he hasn’t done enough on the pitch to suggest he deserves more minutes.’

‘I can’t see any way that Suarez will still be here next season.’

Suarez sidelined

And, as confirmed by the midfielder himself this evening, Suarez’s nightmare Arsenal stint has come to a fittingly disappointing end.

In a post across his social media accounts, Suarez confirmed that he has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a groin injury:

‘I am sorry that all of the effort and sacrifice made to come to Arsenal hasn’t come to fruition as hoped and you can’t even imagine how angry I am about it, but health comes first.’
