Arsenal have tried selling Mustafi ‘every window’ plus Celtic’s Tierney & William Saliba transfer updates
Arsenal want to sell Shkodran Mustafi
On Wednesday night on BBC 5 Live radio, reporter David Ornstein revealed his latest transfer updates concerning Arsenal.
Perhaps the most unexpected piece of news revealed by Ornstein is that Unai Emery is keen to sell Shkodran Mustafi.
Mustafi, 27, is under contract with the Gunners until 2021.
Last season the German defender played 31 times for Arsenal in the Premier League.
Mustafi joined Arsenal from Valencia for £35m three years ago.
David Ornstein on Mustafi
The BBC reporter announced the following:
I was told that after the Europa League final that Unai Emery, who had always put his faith in Shkodran Mustafi despite a number of high-profile mistakes, has decided enough is enough with him and he is no longer in favour of keeping him, so he could be sold.
Arsenal have tried to sell him almost every window since they signed him.
There was no mention of how much Arsenal would look to recoup from any Mustafi sale.
Moreover, Ornstein failed to reveal any possible suitors for the centre-half.
Celtic’s Kieran Tierney & William Saliba transfer updates
Ornstein also spoke about Arsenal’s attempts to sign Kieran Tierney from Celtic and William Saliba from St Etienne.
On Tierney, Ornstein confirmed the news that a 15 million pound offer from Arsenal has been rejected.
However, the reporter believes Arsenal are “optimistic” of signing the Celtic left-back this summer. Ornstein said:
Left back, they are continuing talks for Kieran Tierney. There is optimism around the deal that it will be done.
They’re ready to go with medicals etcetera if they can strike a deal around the fee, but that hasn’t happened yet and Celtic will look to drive a hard bargain of course.
They’ll look to create a market around him, drive the price up towards £25-30m, but some feel Arsenal can do it for under £20m.
Another target for Arsenal is French defender William Saliba.
Ornstein confirmed that St Etienne have been trying to structure a deal in which Saliba remains with the Ligue 1 side on loan in 2019-20.
Arsenal’s other targets
Ornstein mentioned two other areas Arsenal are looking to strengthen.
First, the Gunners want to sign a box-to-box midfielder.
Of course, Aaron Ramsey has left Arsenal as a free agent to join Juventus.
Secondly, Ornstein has noted Arsenal’s interest in landing a wide-attacking player.
