Derby’s Shay Given may join Chelsea with Frank Lampard & breakdown of Chelsea’s 2019-20 backroom staff

Chelsea & Derby’s Frank Lampard

Even before Maurizio Sarri left Chelsea to join Juventus, rumours of Frank Lampard’s Stamford Bridge return circled.

On Wednesday morning, Chelsea are yet to confirm that Lampard will be their new manager.

However, momentum appears to be building for an imminent announcement. As reported in the Times:

Chelsea are close to naming Frank Lampard as their next manager after he was offered a three-year deal worth about £4 million a season plus bonuses.

A quick note about Lampard’s wages at Chelsea

Compared to Chelsea’s former manager, Lampard is set to be paid less.

Of course, Lampard is a novice in the dugout following just one season as the boss of Derby County.

Looking at the wages previously paid to Chelsea managers, Sarri received £5 million a year, Conte was on £6.5 million, while Jose Mourinho’s final contract was worth £7.5 million a season.

Derby’s Shay Given may join Chelsea

In the Times, it’s reported that Shay Given may join Chelsea too this summer:

Shay Given, also with Derby, could follow as goalkeeping coach. Compensation would need to be agreed.

Now 43, Given played for Blackburn, Newcastle, Man City, Aston Villa, Boro and Stoke in his career.

Given has been a coach with Derby since June 2018.

Breakdown of Chelsea’s 2019-20 backroom staff

The Times further report on who Frank Lampard wants working with him on the Chelsea bench next season:

Lampard would like to bring Jody Morris — the former Chelsea player who is his assistant at Derby — and Chris Jones, the fitness coach, with him.

Petr Cech has already completed his return to Chelsea to become the club’s technical advisor.

Cech is set to work alongside Claude Makelele, who will be in charge of loan players at the Bridge.

It remains unclear if Gianfranco Zola will be with the Blues in 2019-20. The Times reveal:

Gianfranco Zola, whose contract as assistant head coach ended this week, would like to stay at Chelsea. He has turned down a role as club ambassador.
