Chelsea ‘agree’ to sign Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic & why UEFA’s transfer ban doesn’t prevent the deal
Chelsea ‘agree’ to sign Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic
Chelsea are on the verge of completing the signing of Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid.
Kovacic spent the 2018-19 season on loan with the Blues.
The 25-year-old Croatian midfielder failed to score for Chelsea last season.
However, Kovacic was a key member of Chelsea’s squad as they won the Europa League trophy.
Aside from playing 12 matches in the UEL, Kovacic also made 32 appearances in the Premier League.
According to multiple sources, Chelsea will sign Kovacic on a permanent deal this summer.
How much will Chelsea pay to sign Mateo Kovacic?
Italian transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that Kovacic will cost Chelsea 50 million euros.
That fee appears to include bonuses and add-ons.
It’s unclear how long Kovacic’s contract at Chelsea will be for.

Why UEFA’s transfer ban doesn’t prevent the deal
Chelsea are banned from signing players for the next two transfer windows.
So how are the Blues able to complete a deal for Kovacic?
Daily Telegraph reporter Matt Law has addressed that issue, revealing that Chelsea “can sign him even with a transfer ban as he is already registered from his loan period.”

Spanish paper AS has also confirmed that Chelsea only have a few days to wrap up the deal.
In order to steer clear of the impact of the UEFA transfer ban, Kovacic’s transfer has to be completed by the 30th of June, when the 52-time capped international’s loan deal with the Blues is set to expire.
