Man United may break youth transfer record to sign Mathis Rayan Cherki plus Romelu Lukaku’s agent talks
Man United & Mathis Rayan Cherki
A new name for Man United fans to research this Wednesday: Mathis Rayan Cherki.
Sam Wallace, the chief footballer writer for the Telegraph, has reported that “Manchester United are considering signing the latest of France’s teenage prodigies, Mathis Rayan Cherki.”
RayanCherki will turn 15 on August 17.
The teenager is described as an attacking midfielder, who is currently on the books at Lyon.
Back in September 2018, Rayan Cherki set a new record in the UEFA Youth League. Aged 15 and 33 days, he became the youngster scorer in the competition during a 4-1 defeat against Man United.
Man United’s rivals include Real Madrid
The race to sign Rayan Cherki appears to be fierce.
Man United are battling some of the biggest clubs in world football to land the youngster. The Telegraph report:
In France, it has been reported that all the European powerhouses, including Real Madrid, Juventus, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, have registered an interest.
How much would Man United need to pay for Cherki?
While the Telegraph steer clear of putting a number out there, it’s clear that Man United may have to spend a lot to complete the transfer:
United would have to offer their biggest-ever contract to a scholarship-age player were they to convince Rayan Cherki to come to Manchester next season, first as a scholar and then with a guaranteed professional deal at 17.
Could Man United sign two players from Lyon?
Not only are United interested in Rayan Cherki, but also Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.
22-year-old Dembele has previously played for Celtic.
Romelu Lukaku’s agent talks
For several weeks, Romelu Lukaku has been linked with a possible move from Man United to Inter Milan.
HLN reporter Kristof Terreur has posted the following update from Lukaku’s agent on the player’s future.
Lukaku’s agent: “Romelu Lukaku is a dream (for Inter), a difficult one to make happen as such, but I believe nothing is impossible.”
Situation as it stands: not a lot of progress. Lukaku is still a priority for Inter, but Man United want hard cash, not a swap deal. #mufc pic.twitter.com/XZJh10m1h8
