Video: Neil Warnock’s epic staredown with officials after Chelsea

Footage of Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock staring down the official team in the aftermath of his side’s heartbreaking defeat to Chelsea this afternoon has been going viral online in the time since.

Cardiff 1-2 Chelsea

The Bluebirds welcomed Maurizio Sarri’s men to Wales a short time ago, for a Premier League clash.

Cardiff headed into proceedings desperate for a positive result, after fellow relegation candidates Burnley and Southampton both picked up important wins yesterday afternoon.

The Clarets’ and Saints’ respective 3-point hauls left Neil Warnock’s side languishing a full 5 points adrift of safety ahead of kick-off this afternoon.

Chelsea, meanwhile, also travelled to the Cardiff City Stadium with a crucial season objective in mind, with the Blues having sat 4 points adrift of the Premier League’s final Champions League berth before proceedings got underway in Wales.

Chelsea come out on top

And, when all was said and done, a drama-filled 90 minutes in the Welsh capital eventually saw Chelsea emerge victorious.

A dismal opening 45 minutes on the part of the Blues saw Sarri’s men struggle to carve out any opportunities of note, though, a shortcoming which was capitalized on by Cardiff shortly after the interval, when Victor Camarasa’s superb strike from the edge of the box found the top corner.

A pair of penalty shouts for the hosts were waved away by Craig Pawson as the clash entered its closing half-hour, before Chelsea pulled level in hugely-dubious circumstances 6 minutes from time.

After a corner from the right was flicked on by Marcos Alonso, Cesar Azpilicueta was on hand to nod home at the back post.

However, replays quickly showcased the fact that the Spaniard had been stood in a blatantly-offside position:

And, incredibly, Cardiff’s miseries were soon compounded by a 90th-minute Chelsea winner, courtesy of a bullet header from Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Warnock inconsolable

Unsurprisingly, the controversial, and largely-undeserved nature of Chelsea’s victory saw the ever-passionate Neil Warnock completely lose his cool following the full-time whistle.

And, after taking his frustrations out on the likes of Maurizio Sarri and David Luiz, Warnock then focused his attentions on referee Craig Pawson and his team of officials, in one of the staredowns of the season:
